Severe obesity and bariatric surgery model

Since 1999, we have constituted a cohort of more than 2500 severely obese subjects (>250 new subjects per year) before surgery (5% gastric banding, 55% sleeve gastrectomy, 40% gastric bypass) and after gastric surgery with a follow-up of 1, 3, 5 and 10 years.

Fundings

In addition to clinical Research studies, the follow-up is guaranteed by several funded projects (BAR-ICAN, Epos, RHU-CARMMA and Leducq foundation), as well as with private contracts (Echosens, Danone, LNC).

Genetic obesity

We are part of the national Reference Center for PWS and related-Rare Diseases (Dr Poitou, coordinator), ~150 children and adults with PWS and ~50 subjects with hypothalamic damage (craniopharyngioma etc…).

Patients at different stages of cardiometabolic diseases

( METACARDIS cohort, EU (FP7 Metacardis), Metacardis 5 year update article )

During the 2013-2018 period, we have contributed to the recruitment of a large European cohort comprising 2100 subjects at different stage of progression of cardiometabolic disease (lean, obese, diabetics, and from metabolic syndrome to atherosclerosis and coronaropathy with or without associated-heart failure), with 1000 patients recruited in Paris.

Dietary manipulations

The MicroObese program (ANR, 2008-2012) studied 50 subjects recruited for a 12-week controlled dietary intervention. In the first 6-w phase, subjects consumed an energy restricted high protein diet (1200 Kcal/d for women and 1500 for men: 35% proteins, 25% lipids, 44% carbohydrates) with low glycaemic index carbohydrates and enrichment in soluble fibers. This phase was followed by a second 6-week body weight stabilization period. Detailed phenotyping including dietary patterns was recorded.

National and International collaborations

We are strongly linked with research and clinical groups also having access to large cohorts in which we can also test our models or hypothesis.
